Colourful Shawl for the Elderly.

Good Afternoon to you.

Although I haven't received this Shawl yet made by 'silver surfer' she has sent me a photo. 

The Squares were sent to me from the States by lynne222 and and 'silver surfer' has very kindly

assembled them for me into a Shawl.  The Granny Shawl is from a pattern by  Shirley Syfrett. I think one

of the Ladies on Loving Hands first of all tried it out and 'silver surfer' told me about it.

The pattern was in an old copy of Crochet World (April 2010) and I managed to purchase a copy on EBAY from the States. Inititally I did suggest making Shawls with Squares and that's why I tried to get hold 

of a copy but of course please feel free to make a Shawl in whatever pattern you like Crocheted or Knitted.

Let's take a look at it.

I can imagine this laying on an Elderly persons shoulders. I'm sure it would be very warm and colourful to brighten their day!

What's new today?

Good afternoon and welcome!

I would like to thank Liz from Loving Hands for sending me a beautiful 'Sunshine Blanket' today that she has made for our 'SIBOL' project. This Blanket certainly will brighten an Elderly person's day. It has such pretty coloured Squares and I think the Black joining really makes the Squares stand out.

Not only did Liz make a 'Sunshine Blanket' she also made a Shawl too. I'm so pleased that Shawls were suggested for our project because today I received the very first one from Liz and I know on receiving it how useful they are going to be.  Certainly will take the chill off someone.

I've found some pretty Ribbon to decorate along with our 'SIBOL' Butterflies. Let's take a look now.

Shawls for the Elderly.

Hi everyone!

Thank you for taking an interest in making Shawls for the Elderly. 'Winter Frolics'.

Good afternoon,

I would like to thank Liztelf for another amazing 'Sunshine Blanket' for the Elderly.

This one is called 'Winter Frolics' and it's beautifully made.  Liztelf has assembled the Blanket

using the flat braid method and it certainly makes the Squares stand out so well. If you want to try the flat braiding method there are plenty of videos on You Tube. Love all the colours in the Squares too. Thank you so much Liztelf for making it for the Elderly.

Shawls and Sunshine Blankets for the Elderly.

Thank you very much for popping in to 'Mrs Twins',

As you know I have suggested making Shawls for the Elderly. I thought this might be a good idea as it will be something different for our Group to try and also of course give warmth to an Elderly person. The Ladies over on RAVELRY  think that it's a good idea so I'm really pleased. Please don't go to the trouble of buying new yarn just make it in whatever you have in  your stash. I just thought it might be nice to enclose a few in with our Blankets when I go out on my Deliveries.

Some ideas are as follows:

Ann C has contributed this pattern for a Granny Shawl 

DK yarn, 4mm hook, UK terms

Row 1 : make magic circle. Ch3 then TR2 Ch1 TR3 into circle. Ch3, turn. Pull up magic circle firmly.
Row 2 : TR2 in the same stitch as turning chain. Ch1 (TR3 Ch1 TR3) in to centre chain space. Ch1 TR3 in to third ch of the turning chain from previous row. Ch3, turn.
Row 3 : TR2 in the same stitch as turning chain. Ch1 TR3 i. each chain space to centre. Ch1 (TR3 Ch1 TR3) in centre chain space. Ch1 TR3 in each chain space to end. Ch1 TR3 in to third ch of the turning chain from previous row.
Repeat Row 3 until shawl is desired size.

Initially I was thinking of making the Shawls with 6" Squares.

4 x 11.  Maybe a pocket added for tissues?

Ladies on RAVELRY have become very excited about making Shawls and we've had ideas for Shawls with Sleeves in to which really are 'shrugs'. I honestly don't mind any type.

I had some lovely 'Sunshine Blankets' arrive yesterday from Liztelf and MarilynJG thank you both so much. Both Blankets are ideal for Men.

This one has been sent in by MarilynJG. Love the blues in this one and such a pretty border. We are in need of Blankets for Men so please feel free to make them in Men's colours.

Liztelf made and donated 'Woodland Wandering' an ideal Blanket for a Man don't you think?
Superb flat braiding once  again Liz. Colours perfect too.

I'm very grateful to you both for the time spent making them. I shall take them out on my next deliveries. Thank you.

All the Blues!

Good afternoon and Welcome to 'Mrs Twins',

I would like to thank Julie today for making and donating 'Happy Blue Year!'
This is a large Granny Square Blanket made in wonderful shades of Blue and ideal for a Gent in one of our Homes. Larger than our normal 'Sunshine Blankets' I know it will keep someone really
lovely and warm.

Julie has been telling me how she finds Crocheting relaxing and would rather sit down and pick up her hook than do anything else!  It is surprising how therapeutic Crocheting can be but I'm sure Ladies who knit feel exactly the same.

Let's take a look at it now.
