Helping "2 Wish Upon a Star'.

Good afternoon,

Our 'SIBOL' project has become very popular indeed and since January 2010 we have made well over 1,000 Sunshine Blankets which have been donated to Residents in Care Homes throughout the UK.  From time to time I am asked if we could help out with other Charity work so it is my absolute pleasure to now give you details.

Yesterday I received an email from Liz in Wales. She writes...

"I was wondering whether I could ask for your help with a project I'm working on.
A friend of mine asked me recently to make a blanket for the
" 2 Wish Upon A Star :: Cwtch of Comfort' project.'

This is a Charity that needs donations of blankets to put into 'bereavement boxes' for
parents who have suffered the loss of a child.

I have committed to making three blankets  for them and I'm asking others to help me
make more. We've organised a local crochet along and I'm asking people if they would like
to send squares to me to be made up into blankets for this very worthy cause.

I have been so inspired by SIBOL over the past few years and the fantastic
work you have done.  I have always been touched by how the online
crocheting/knitting community will rally together for a good cause.

I have put a post up on my blog  it's under Unravelling Me.... Thank  you"

Can we help Liz? I do hope so.
She needs the following:

6" Squares Knitted or Crocheted
White or very pale pastel colours
Pale pastel colours need to be 'gender neutral, ie, pale lilac, pale yellow, etc.,
This is so that the bereavement boxes don't need to be marked as 'for a boy' or 'for a girl'.
Acrylic yarn please
1 or 2, or how many you can manage would be fantastic
Deadline End of May 2015.

Please contact Liz on the following email address.

This is a really worthwhile project  and I'm sure we can help.
Why not pop over to 'Unravelling Me' and see what's needed.

Thanks everyone!

Make a Shawl for the Elderly.

Good Morning,

When I visited one of the local Homes yesterday the Staff said how useful the Crocheted and Knitted Shawls would be. I offered to go back when I have enough for the other Residents. I'm wondering if you would like to help me make some more for them?  They are so useful when sitting about and I tend to use one myself when watching TV. They really do take the chills away.

We have over the months found some nice patterns on RAVELRY here's the LINK to the site.
You will have to sign in if you haven't been there before.
But then if you click on Patterns and just type in whether you want 'Knitted or Crocheted'.
You will be able to access  many ideas.

One of the popular patterns is the 'Original Half Granny Square Shawl' by Amar Enid Alcala.
Here's the LINK. to that one.

It can be made in any colour you like and whatever size you like too.
But a good size is 124 cms across and 65cms top to point.
It could also be smaller or larger it's entirely up to you.

Here are some of the Shawls that we have made using  this Half Granny Square method.

Shawls made my Bev thank you.

Shawl made by Gill thank you.

Shawl from Marilyn thank you!

Thanks to 'me' Shawls for the Elderly.

This is a very simple pattern using the Granny method and it's a great way of using your un-wanted stash. Why not make a Crocheted Butterfly to finish it off. Here's the LINK to Netties Blog in Australia. She has a great video tutorial and once you start making them I can guarantee you will become addicted to making them.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Thank you

Delivery Day again!

Good Morning and welcome!

I am very pleased to be telling you that this morning I delivered 24 Sunshine Blankets  to the Wythall Residential Home local to where I live.  I also gave them a few  Knitted and Crocheted Shawls which had been donated to our project.

Over the past few days I  have been getting the Blankets and Shawls ready for my delivery. It's always such fun decorating them with Butterflies and Ribbons. It still surprises me how quickly they arrive at my Home and I'm very grateful to everyone that spends time making them. They really are works of art and today the Home really appreciated them. Karen and the Staff admired your work and really was extremely grateful for these wonderful donations.  One of the Residents agreed to having her photograph taken too which was really really lovely.

They have asked for some copies of these photos so that they can put them on their notice board which I thought was a super idea.

The Staff told me that the Shawls especially would be very useful and if anyone would like to help me make some more for them please do.  The Shawl shown on the above photo is the 'Half Granny Square Shawl' and if you would like to try it please follow the LINK. If you can make a Granny Square you can make a Large Half Granny Shawl it's so simple and very addictive too.

I think the Shawl shown really suits this Resident and I do hope she finds it useful. We always attach Butterflies it's rather like our 'SIBOL' trade mark.

So in closing may I thank you all on behalf of Wythall Residential Home the donations today were very well received. They were extremely grateful and couldn't get over how beautiful your work was!

If there is anything you would like to ask me please feel free to mail me.

Thank  you!

What's new on Monday?

Good morning and welcome!

I would like to thank baw1812 for the parcel received this morning. Inside were two beautiful Half Granny Shawls, Butterflies and the last Square for our special 1,000th Blanket. Thank you so much. The Butterflies are going to be so useful my Butterfly stash is getting pretty low.

Let's take a look now.

Great colour combinations in these two Shawls.

Thanks for helping me out with the Square too baw1812, thank you so much!

Barbara has very kindly sent in a pretty Granny Square Blanket today. She tells me that she started the Blanket using scraps of yarn that she had lying about with no particular use in mind. Then she heard about our 'SIBOL' project and was motivated to get on with it and get it finished. I'm ever so grateful to you Barbara. I will be visiting a Home again very soon and I will definitely be taking your Blanket out with me. It's a great size, will be very cozy and it's really pretty. Thanks so much once again.

Thank you both very much.
